Info

We are a Zürich-based interdisciplinary research and design studio. Our focus lies in investigating materials on-site and exploring their transformative narratives.

Studio Eidola, situated in Zürich and established in 2020, operates as an interdisciplinary research and design studio founded by Denizay Apusoglu, an industrial designer, and Jonas Kissling, an architect.

Grounded in principles of exploration and critical reflection, the studio undertakes the task of recontextualizing materials, giving particular attention to their histories, geologies, and potentials often overlooked.

Their works consistently begin with open-ended inquiries into the life cycles and intrinsic properties of raw materials, taking cues from geomorphic influences and long-standing artisanal traditions. From this foundational research, outcomes can vary in scale and medium, manifesting as distinct objects, spatial designs, or guiding manifestos.

The twofold approach of the studio is to delve into site-specific material research and establish ties with the local industry, examining its cultural imprints. They act as a bridge, synthesizing the close relationship between material culture and industrial evolution, producing fresh interpretations from their confluence.

Studio Eidola aspires to play a pivotal role in shaping post-contemporary material culture. By weaving together elements from past traditions and current design sensibilities, the studio fosters a practice that resonates with both historical depth and contemporary relevance, subtly reflecting the evolving dynamics of material and design in today's world.
