Studio Eidola, based in Zürich and founded in 2020 by industrial designer Denizay Apusoglu and architect Jonas Kissling, operates as an interdisciplinary research and design practice. The studio investigates mineral material flows, waste streams, and systems of making across geological and industrial contexts.
Working with mineral by-products such as stone dusts, quarry slurries, gravel fines, Studio Eidola traces how materials move through extraction, processing, construction, and disposal. These materials are approached not as passive resources, but as carriers of geological time, industrial histories, and latent futures.
Through site-specific research, material experimentation, and collaboration with local industries, the studio develops objects, installations, and material propositions that sit between art, architecture, and production. Studio Eidola’s work examines how industrial residues can be recontextualized, transformed, and reintegrated into contemporary material cultures.
The practice operates at the intersection of research and making, where material knowledge is generated through hands-on processes, testing, and iteration. By foregrounding overlooked matter and industrial by-products, Studio Eidola seeks to question extractive logics and propose alternative material narratives rooted in continuity, reuse, and long-term thinking.
